Thanks, atomic!
Cherry was inexplicably harsh on Lucic:

| Quote: |
So that leads us to CBC Hockey Night in Canada analyst Don Cherry, who had this to say in between periods while guest-starring in the NESN booth with Kathryn Tappen and Mike Milbury.
"[Shawn] Thornton was embarrassed by this [Lucic] fight coming up." (Thornton fought immediately with Wayne Primeau on the next faceoff in a pretty clear admission that Lucic lost that fight.) "He was embarrassed. If you don't want to fight then don't fight, but you can't quit," said Cherry. "And that's exactly what [Lucic] did. That's the trouble with the Bruins. You don't hit. You don't win fights. If you're gonna get in a fight then you go.
"Lucic is a good hockey player, but if you're going to fight – you don't quit. Look at him he's looking at the linesman to come on in. You don't tell him to come on in [and break up the fight]. You go out on your shield. If you're going to get in a fight and then you hide behind a linesman. That's a disgrace if you're the Boston Bruins as far as I'm concerned."

Quit? Looked pooped/overmatched to me. No shame in that.

| Grapes is right, Lucic went looking for it and when Orr popped him right on the button, he looked to bail. |

Well, I'll give props to Lucic for "looking for it" against Orr -- that's some good competition for a guy who isn't even his team's enforcer.
And I don't see where he bailed. To me it looked like he got tagged with a hard shot and had nothing left. |

I was surprised to see Lucic go with Orr, and I give him credit for doing that, but as soon as he got popped he looked to bail (imo). That's easy for me to say though, typing from the safety of my computer eating chicken fried rice. |

| Lucic did OK but after he got pooped he just wanted to finish fight and that's OK. Cherry is whining for nothing. |

Agree with SB, its easy looking at it from where we sit.
But he did go looking for Orr, then when he took a couple of hard shots it sure did look like he called for the linesman. No biggie but it doesnt look good, getting punched in the face is not fun. |

Maybe we can cut Lucic a bit of slack now?
http://www.necn.com/03/07/10/Lucic-Cherry-needs-to-re-analyze-things/landing_sports.html?blockID=192708&feedID=3352
| Quote: | For those that missed it, the dapper king of Canadian hockey bombast accused Lucic of "quitting" during a first-period brawl with NHL heavyweight Colton Orr, and said it was a disgrace to the hard-earned tough image of the Boston Bruins.
As usual, Cherry ran rampant without all of the facts, including the little reality that Lucic is playing with a) a bum ankle and b) a surgically repaired index finger on his left hand.
And then there's c) Orr broke Lucic's nose during the fight.
Lucic was clearly stunned after that one powerful right-handed punch.
"I value what [my teammates] have to say. When it comes from a guy like [Cherry] I don't have to listen to it too much," Lucic said to CSNNE.com after scoring Boston's first goal in a 3-2 win over the Islanders Saturday afternoon. "Halfway through the fight, [Orr] got me with a pretty good shot and ended up breaking my nose.
"If I was going to quit like Don Cherry was saying, then I'm pretty sure I would have gone down to the ice and wouldn't have come back into the game. I don't know what he's talking about with quitting. I think he needs to re-analyze things before he makes comments like that."
There was a telltale gash on the bridge of Lucic's nose Saturday afternoon as proof of the injury, but the big forward said it didn't need to be re-set as a result of the fracas. Lucic kept his fists up and didn't go down to the ice at any point after Orr busted up his nose in the fight, and it's to the winger's credit he stayed within punching distance of Toronto's fighter afterward.

I never understood why Brashear went down, it's not like he was losing that fight. In fact he bails after he laid some heavy licks on Domi. |

| I think that's just the sort of fighter Brashear was. He gets his licks in, then when he sees he hasn't put the other guy away -- that, in fact, the other guy is about to start countering with his own shots -- Brashear's going to call it a night. |
