Friedman
It’s Up to Iraqis Now. Good Luck.

Greenwald
American elites abandon their faux regret over Iraq

I wish Greenwald wrote for the NY Times. He deserves a bigger audience.

The whole thing, Friedmanīs point of view, is such a filthy example of Amerikan arrogance and short sightedness and lack of conscious . . . and they wonder why darker, foreigner folks become so enraged, or more likely so easily brainwashed by the enragers as to fly airplanes into symbols of ourselves.

Iīve never seen such poo pooing as the attitude toward the massive loss of life for innocent victims on our supposedly do-gooder adventures or aggressive search for national interest.

Donīt mean to say all American foreign policy is arrogant and that the US are monsters, but fuck me, there has been massive, massive destruction of life and families and societies in the name of our self righteousness and one sided national interest. Much of our history of meddling is outrageous.

The arrogance really is astounding. And, of course, there are some Americans who bitch about Iraqis being "ungrateful." That's my personal favorite.

I thought you were kidding with the title for Friedman. That was pretty bad.

Friedman's logic has always been very clouded with his blind allegiance to all things Israel. Don't ever forget that.

And I thought Greenwald was kidding (or at least exaggerating for comic effect) with the "suck on this" comment. But if you click the hyperlinks in his column, you see it's completely true (at the very end of the clip):

http://www.eschatonblog.com/2008_05_25_archive.html#8186863620366648990

From "suck on this" to "You're welcome for the wonderful democracy we gave ya."

For the "pro life" lobby: http://rethinkafghanistan.com/hp/us-allies-responsible-for-most-marjah-civilian-casualties/

Could you imagine these numbers in Iraq or Vietnam?

I posted an article a couple of years ago that estimated about 600,000 lives were lost in Iraq.

Since there's no way scientific way to count the corpses, those who supported the war won't accept any casualty number as accurate. And anyway, even if it were 6,000,000 dead those people would say it's worth it. Iraq has "democracy" now, and that imminent threat to America's very existence, Saddam Hussein, is dead. Cheap at any price!
